Bengals' Johnson Out For Rest of Preseason
Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson will be out for the rest of the preseason after straining his left shoulder Sunday night in a game against the Detroit Lions.
The Bengals were already short Pro Bowl receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh and running back Rudi Johnson. Both of them have missed the first two preseason games with hamstring injuries.
Johnson landed hard on his left side after cornerback Brian Kelly intercepted a pass thrown his way on Cincinnati's first series. After rolling on the ground in pain for a few moments, he went to the sidelines then to the locker room. He didn't return.
Head coach Marvin Lewis said Johnson's shoulder popped back into place on the field and that subsequent exams have revealed no fractures.
Johnson is expected to be ready to play at the Bengals' season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
Jackson Holdout With Rams Continues
Top-notch running back Stephen Jackson continued this week holding out of playing pre-season games and practicing with the St. Louis Rams as negotiations continue for a new contract. Jackson was not at Rams Park Friday as the team prepared for its second pre-season game, this time against the San Diego Chargers, but head coach Scott Linehan said progress is being made with Jackson in contract negotiations. I know they have had some talks," Linehan said. "I know it's moving along Whatever that means, it sounds positive to me." The Rams beat the Chargers 7-6 on Saturday, but for the 10th straight preseason game under Linehand, the Rams' first-team offense has failed to score a touchdown.
